oh ok, yeah, the website just does that when you click on the link, did the same thing for me.
but using the information i posted, if you can insert that into some client software, it should connect.
you could try using the windows client (if you use windows)
start
run
type in: http://www.dark-legacy.com 9898
and that should load the default telnet client (kinda icky)
you could download a freeware mud client at http://www.zuggsoft.com (it's called zmud, you need to hunt around for the free version on the site)
or you can try other clients out there, just search for mud client on google

sounds like you have the same problem i was having over the past 2-3 weeks with dl's old server / routing setup.
i'm working fine now though, maybe Celeborn can shed more light on the subject.
P.S. - i made a typo in the earlier response:
i meant to say -
do:
start
run
telnet http://www.dark-legacy.com 9898
(i forgot to tell you to type telnet in) sorry about that.

no problem, but i would definitely try to figure out why you can't connect directly, such as 'firewall software' especially the firewall settings in windows xp, maybe some software you have running such as zonealarm, if you install the client of your choice, then go into these firewall setting locations and add the client you have installed as something it should 'allow' then your gaming experience will go up by like a million percent.
mud clients = necessary in my opinion

me and my problem
i think i got the worst problem of all. i still havent been able to connect to DL from home for hrm...6 months now?
when i use gmud to connect to DL (http://www.dark-legacy port 9898), or to (205.234.68.8 port 9898) i get this message:
%%% Error Connecting: Connection timed out
%%% Retrying connection to 205.234.68.8 on port 9898.
%%% Disconnected from server.
or
%%% Error Connecting: Connection refused
%%% Retrying connection to 209.160.32.193 on port 9898.
%%% Disconnected from server.
When i try connect using the link isabelle posted i get this message:
sorry, could not connect: Java.net.EocketException. Network is unreachable: connect
You are either behind a firewall or the Java Telnet Applet has a broken configuration.
If unsure please contact the administrator of the webpage.
I know it cant be a java problem because i've tested on 5 computers at home and none of them can connect to DL. I however, able to connect to DL from many computers outside of my home. I suspect it is my router but after many attempts, it is hopeless.
Also, lately every link i click on from the DL website redirects me back to the same page...weird.
The funny thing is that i can connect to every mud except for DL.
ANYONE HAS ANY IDEA WHAT THE HECK IS GOING ON?

if you still (at this moment) cannot connect to D/L - but can connect to others, then somewhere along the route, your server is blocked.
Mine was blocked for awhile until they switched servers - or routing tables or something. Now i'm good. I suspect that either A) you have software or hardware running which is blocking port 9898, or the problem is on D/L's server side and is blocking you.
The only way for you to connect is to use a different ISP, or setup a computer remotely outside of your ISP to do some IP forwarding.
(So you would connect to (remote computer) which in turn forwards it to http://www.dark-legacy.com - port 9898
