Beyond Space

Post by lingolas »

beyond earth is Mars, beyond Mars is Pluto, beyond Pluto is another solar system, beyond the solar system is another galaxy, beyond everything is space, so the question is: what's beyond space?

Space as we know it is infinate. As such, it is beyond human comprehension. As it is beyond human comprehension, we cannot even speculate without not knowing what the heck we think it is we're talking about.

Can you prove that space is indeed infinite or only that you are unable to see an end to it?

It is hard to comprend space beyond space. I was "taught" there is no beginning and there is no end to space or time.

There is a theory which states that if anyone ever figures out what the universe is for, and why it is here, it will instantly dissappear and be replaced by something even more bizzare and inexplicable.

There is another which states that this has already happened.

And for many years, the then-modern world believed that the sun orbitted the earth and that the earth was flat. What we are taught means nothing.

i do see what lingo is trying to get at though, in the big bang theory, it says the space is expanding, scientic data shows evidence that this is true, so if space is expanding, what is it expanding into? there must be somthing out there, cause... well.... what is nothing more than? outer space is nothingness, so what could nothing expand into?

Suppose that there is a fixed volume of x. If the universe is expanding in this x volume then something else must be contracting. What could this be? Interesting to ponder

Will we ever know the answer to this one?

Post by Arureal »

What is beyond the fringe of expanding space? That is an excellent question, and one which is debated amoung physicists today. I would suggest that anyone interested in this topic read "The Universe in a Nutshell" wrote by one of the worlds top physicists, you know, the guy in the wheelchair who holds Newton"s posistion at Chambridge. He does a great job of explaining the different theories in use today, in a way that the average person can grasp it.
Some of these theories are very strange, like we are all just holograms of another reality, but they all explain the facts as we currently understand them. But in truth, this question cannot be answered until we know more.
