exotics

as some of you know, last month i changed tridents to be spears instead of exotic weapons. The problem this created is that when crafting, trident is still under the exotic category.
So, i can fix this, i need a new weapon name to take the place of tridents in the crafting department.

Any ideas?

(Note: your existing "crafted tridents" will be changed 'back' to be exotic, and will be given the new name - when we agree on one)

Heaven and Earth Blade: the name sucks but the weapon might fit in.

Or since im assuming a double bladed axe just has one head with two axes blades, how bout a spear with blades on each end or axe heads on each end. Like in Neverwinter Nights, called a dire blade or something? It is considered exotic there as well.

Warblades, those double-sword type things in NWN and that the Demon Hunter uses in Warcraft III.

How about Nunchakus? You know the weapon Michaelanglo uses off of Ninja turles.

is that the one that looks like a mini trident?

nunchakus (spelling?) are the short wooden sticks attached with a chain that Bruce Lee uses to kick ass :) Only problem is that these are blunt.
Raphael uses something called Sai daggers apparently, but these are sort of pierce weapons with a bit of slash damage possibly.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This man speaks the truth. <3 8 bit theater.

Sword chucks would kickass, TONS of it. I am all for sword-chucks.

Sword-chucks would be a great addition to DL. In addition to being really cool, properly wielded sword-chuks cause nearly as much damage to the target as to the wielder. Swords and axes, stand aside.

uhm

k, sword chucks wont work, as i can't code them to deal equal damage to the wielder, and the other ideas havent really jumped out at me as 'yeah! this is the one' except maybe the thing that looks like a klingon battleth ;)

keep trying

Sword-chucks were a joke, a reference to 8-bit theatre(http://www.nuklearpower.com)

You could use a swallow, like that thing Serge uses in chrono cross(kind of like the demon hunter's blades)

Other possibilities: glaives, katanas(they are a sword, technically, but an exotic one), sword breakers, scimitars(we don't have crafted scimitars, do we?)

How about the Yue(moon)? Its a chinese weapon that loosk like two crescent moons with the tips facing eachother and overlapped, the outer crescent is a cutting blade, the inner crescent is the handle and the protruding tips are sharp. I'll see if i can find a pic.

The best pics i could find are of modern reproductions, but it will give you an idea. The Yue is here called a 'deer antler knife', but the concept is the same:

Also cool would be the Yuen Yang razor:

Or the Sun and Moon spear Blade

Swordbreaker

An exotic weapon designed mostly for parry and disarm, but can cause some nasty wounds too. Generally used as an off-hand weapon.

i think the moon blade hrulgin suggested would be a good exotic weapon. It's not so much like a blade that it is mistaken for a sword, and it certainly /looks/ exotic...

plus...the picture's really coooool :D

Anyone ever read the Zombie Survival Guide? (It's a funny book, not like take it seriously)

In it you will find alot of cool decapitateing weapons like the Shaiolin Spade. A semi-curved blade on one end of a staff, and an outward semi circle spade on the other end. You thrust the Spade end at someone's neck and lop off some heads.

Or what about those daggers atached to a chain that you swing around?

Or what about the sword everyone dreams of? The KATANA! I'd love to own a Katana on DL! Problem would be that you'd have to use restraint when programing that weapon, cause it just rocks in almost all categories. The only thing that should turn a Katana away is metal armor, any wood or cloth should be an instant sever or something. There's probably some drawback to those, I can't think of any off hand, so don't burn me for saying its the best outright.

Oh, and another thing i'd like to see: Black Powder, explosives mainly, not really intending to bring guns into DL, that i understand is what is trying to be avoided, but explosives would be cool. Make it a craft like alchemy. Then make a metal shell in the forgeing craft and make it a combine command like "Combine 'Black powder' 'powder shell' " and get something like a hand grenade out of it. I know we have black potions but they just dont seem to do much. The damage they deal is rather random, so a grenade that would do a mediocre amount of damage would be cool. Give it a blast radius so you have to keep your distance, like 50 feet or something, get too close and pay the price.

Do be wishing ye do be having explosives? Do be using them for sometime meself. Learned thar trick of taking the essence of a black pearl and placing her in a keg of beer form an old gnome with two fingers left. Do be thinking his problem was he used water instead of beer. Magine that... who ever do be hearing of water destroying things? Now a keg of beer... 'ave seen a keg oh beer destroy a tavern or two.

On another note.... Katana's stink. Man with chain mail shirt and a Longsword vs man in chain mail shirt and a Katana. Longsword wins, all else equal.

Unless the man with the longsword forgot to put on his collar and helmet...and it seems like many people I see around the MUD would be the kind of people who do that in real life...

On Katanas vs. longswords

You all are correct that a longsword might beat a katana in battle, but only in this modern age. Modern katana copies are made out of the same steel that most other blades are made of, where as the older katanas were made of different grades of steel forged together. I have been lucky in that I have got to use some of these old blades forged by masters that we can not reproduce today, even with our great technology. This forging technique gave them a superior cutting edge, hardened sides and spine for blocking with reduced damage to your blade, and most importantly, no or little vibration from blows transmitted to your hand and arm. But as most people have never fought with real blades and armor from the past, I do not expect them to take notice of these little details. That and the fact that most people I have seen, use a Katana like it was a 2-handed european sword, and could not land a precise blow if their life depended upon it. This might account for the commonly held belief that the longsword would be better than a Katana.

However these old blades forged by masters long dead are hard to come by, the Japanese government has tried its best to get my father to sell his blade to them, as they consider such blades to be national treasures. If you ever come across one, grab it, it may be the only chance you get to own a fine blade. They do make custom blades in Japan that are forged the old way, they are very costly and not as good as the older blades as many of the master smiths secrets died with them, but still better than the common longsword. I have never heard of a longsword that could cleave a man from shoulder to groin in a single blow, but that was the test some master smiths would put their blades to, and if the blade failed, they broke it and made another.

I could go on, but I will refrain, as we do not have the Katana in DL, this really is a mute discussion.
