Wandering Encounters

How about some wandering encounters that *aren't* ambushes?
For instance some farm girl wants you to go kill an orc cause her precious kitty cat Bookums was sauteed with a side of dragonherb as a garnish?
You go kill an orc, and get like 25 glory.
Or another suggestion is a wandering merchant who has some gear like healing potions or resources like cotton and spidersilk or wood? Or even gems that you could buy (make them cost approximate amounts and make them as rare as they are in epic dungeons on the selling list. You could have some that sell ores etc.)
Another suggestion is simply stumbling across a forgotten city, that only you can enter and no one can astral to. Almost like when you get dumped into a grave or at an ancient temple.
Or maybe the corpse of a long dead adventurer that contains like 1k gold.
Just tossing ideas into the wind.
