Note, some of these only apply if your first class is cleric and some to multiclass.
Turn Undead: you can't use it very often but it is highly under used, it can be incredibly powerful against undead, killing entire rooms of them in one use.
Ward: this spell is the best elemental(and weapon) resistance you'll find. each fec gives you an extra 10% resistance, according to which element rune you added.(perhaps is was 5%, blurry memory)
-
if you can deal with the many disadvantages of a vampie, the infinite mana is quite nice(though it also has a major disadvantage), especialy for a cleric who can heal his wounds even when he runs out of blood. ancient chinese secret: use fire ward to walk freely in the daylight.
Bane: this spell is destruction incarnate, add a til rune to ward and you have bane. instead of protecting you it lowers the enemys resist. if you multiclassed into a mage this spell will help greatly, especialy in pvp. bane/ crystal arrow/breath anyone?
Sanctuary: this spell is always useful, right up to tri-av and epic. stick some durs in it and you take half damage for quite a while.
slow/haste: possibly the most useful spells a cleric gets. add a til too slow to get haste. generaly you won't use slow on mobs, they die too fast. though slow in pvp is priceless. haste is something you'll quickly grow attached to, fec and dur it and you'll almost constantly use it.
resurrect: try to keep an aya rune in it if you have the complexity. a res is always appreciated.
regenerate: try to keep an aya in this as well.
heal: some would suggest using a bee rune on it for instant casting, i'd say that's a pretty silly thing to do. all that's doing is wasting complexity space, you'll have a very weak heal. use haste instead of bee, and keep heal feced up. try to keep it 1 fec below the maximum you can put in it if your getting alot of casting failures, it's important not to get those when using heal.
bloodpurge: if your trying to cure a friend of vampirism, you may need to add fecs to your bloodpurge to beat their saving throw. config +showrolls
an aya in this also greatly helps your roll.
Strength and endurance: these spells can prove useful, especialy when feced and dured.
yes, i mentioned alot of runes for a newbie guide, but they're obtainable, especialy through auctions. except for til, you may find that one to be rare specialy at low levels.
one last thing: ALWAYS use a sword or axe at low levels. nothing else compares to severs.
