Post subject: IMPROVING EPICS Posted: Thu Oct 21, 2004 12:44 am |

Several ideas have been suggested to me about epics and epic levellers. Many times, people want to go in to epics to do as they will, but find someone already in there. Normally, this intruder would have to leave, because he never checked to see if any one was there.
But, for example, many times I WILL ask several times, over a long period of time before I enter epics. If there is someone in there after I have entered, i'm reluctant to leave, because i've put so much effort towards being there legally, plus paying 5k.
Darrington's suggestion to avoid the awkwardness of the problem is to set a players title to the name of the epic dungeon upon entry and then have it revert to their previous title upon exitting. Kiasyn thinks that being able to 'look' at the dungeon statue and having it tell you who is inside (if there are people inside) will aid in avoiding the stated problem.
I believe that many more innovative ideas can be created, but in my eyes it looks like a solution to this problem has been presented, however, the solution can only be reached if a caretaker would see to it that one of these ideas is implemented.
Thank you for listening.
Special thanks to Darrington and Kiasyn for the good ideas.

I'm liking the statue idea. Go with that one.

Yeah, I liked that idea too. Now we just need to get a caretaker to read this post :p.

I don't get why there's even a discussion about the failure of someone smart enough to operate a computer and their inability to even ask if someone's in an epic dungeon when they want to go in. But then we get people like Zidane who will come in after someone's been in an epic dungeon and THINKS he can tag along because he doesn't want to leave and he just spent the 5k to get in...
Maybe there should be an IQ requirement, then again, you wouldn't have much of a pbase left over.
I know that some people go RP or shut off some channels when they're in epics, I do this because it's simply annoying to try to maneuver through epics with someone trying to send me a tell.
The statue idea is cool, but maybe add in a config to allow people to enter epics once you're already there? We all have stragglers who like to come and join after we've been in (well, not me because if and when I do group, my group is already with me - and I don't group much), but at least having a config -allowepic would keep people from entering that we don't want entering.
Or....don't allow someone to sac the gold to open the portal. This way, people aren't wasting money and the excuse that 'I already spent the 5k to get in' would be invalid.
The reason I didn't put down any agreement on the title is that some people use their titles for other reasons...perhaps a config +epictitle command for those who want their title to change when they enter epics?
I honestly think alot of this would be avoided if people simply paid attention and took the two minutes to either ask if someone's in epics or to farsight the level 50s to check what dungeon they're in. Laziness is simply not an excuse.

Why not just a 'who epic', that lists which people are in which dungeon?

Yes, I like the 'who epic' command idea. When can that be implemented? :p

If we changed it to have the first roomvnum of each epic dungeon be the room that has the statue, then you would only need to type 'where'

Oh I see. So the room with the statue would be part of the dungeon?
That works, also takes far less effort.

yeah, chances are good kiasyn's idea will have to be the one to use, the idea i posted can't work without coding, as the first room of the dungeons are static, and would try to make themselves their own exits n such

Or... what I used to do was just farsight all the tri-avs on the mud... doesnt take too long.
After I did that I never had any problems.
The resources are there.

It does, laurana, when there are 30 tri avs on. By the time you were done farsighting them all, one might run up and enter epics and you wouldn't know a thing until you got there. Therefore there is a need for an efficient system. If you have any other ideas, feel free to post.

IQ does not match personality. I know many intelligent people who have that ugly attitude.
And most simpletons are kind...

Even though i am not a triav yet i would think the who epics would b the best, yo could list all ppl in the dugeons, that way its all at once, costs no mana, and is fast.
just a thought.

hmm
who epic
if blah >= e1 and area = blahdungeon
add player to who, assign dungeon name to dungeon list
end if
there`s probably a loop in there missing...like prople till eof(who) or some such junk...dont know the file names so i cant really say.
or just make a epicdungeon list that updates on saves i dunno.
Player LVL Dungeon
-------- ---------- ------------
Pudgy e49 Spiders
Perky e78 Kobolds
Yorky e90 Undead
....anyways you get the bleeding idea. just have that list updated every half minute/minute, no one would die for waiting 30 seconds of their life i`m sure....though with the impatient ones i think its possible
