Post subject:  help me with my next computer

my current computer is nearly 6 years old. Yah, Pen II. 350 hz.

i'm planning on buying a light lapton. All i have is 1000 dollars to spend. I wil use it mostly for school and normal things that people my age do. i want a computer that can handle some decent games, but nothing too crazy or too hardcore. Does anyone have any recomendation?

My current Laptop is an old HP Pavillion N5440 from late '01. It has a Pent III processor, though I don't recall what speed. Also has 20GB memory. It has taken a beating and still works great. It did cost a heck of a lot at the time it was made.

At the local PX I have seen HP Pavillions with Pent 4 and about 60GB running about $1000. They looked pretty sturdy, and a bit thinner then mine. They would likely serve you well.

You could either go out and buy a desktop or laptop for that price. Or if you want to learn more about computers, you could build your own. This might be an advantage if there is anything that you want to use from your old computer.

This looks like a decent AMD 64 Barebones computer for $500.

I have heard of some people having trouble getting rebates from them. So you might want to do a little research on the company before you buy from them.

Ling, you are in the USA, right?
http://www.newegg.com for all your computer parts needs. They are absurdly cheap, wicked fast, and have fix all problems if they for some odd reason mess up your order (very rare, but happens to all companies, newegg is no exception).

They don't shop to Canada though, so anybody who lives up there is out of luck.
