this idea has been submitted before, by others -

if you were a rogue, you would have to join a 'rogue guild' if you were a warrior, you would have to join a 'warrior guild'

sounds alot like stock smaug :P

celeborn likes diversity, and has other reasons for not wanting that type of system. Players get enough perks, if you want to be powerful, level up, or learn about enchanting your equipment :)

and since the enchantment space of your equipment raises as you level up, and since you gain perks every level, levelling is the way to do it :)

I have to say, this is one idea I actually like, although I see a couple things I'd like to change... I believe that the points should be a certain monetary, or item, cost, not an amount based on the number of members. This would mean that stronger guilds would get more things, not newb-friendly. Although this might seem bad, there are also advantages.
1. In a guild full of newbies, it's much more difficult for you to really use many points without killing an aspect of your newbies.
2. The more exclusive and powerful a guild, the more specialized it generally is, and would know how to effectively use more points without making unplayable characters.
3. I'm an elitist and believe that if you can afford something, you have the right to it, and you shouldn't get things for no reason.
The other thing I'd like to see changed is that if you have to buy things, reduction points should either not be in or only have to be used for 1/4 or 1/2 of all advancement points that are used. Let's face it, we're just gonna see a bunch of guilds with -50000 mv and uber high stats that more than replace the espace they'll devote to mv to break even any way...
