current name law.
Code:
Adhere to the following guidelines when choosing a name:

1: It should NOT be similar to any other player, a Caretaker, a mobile,
a command, common object or animal, or equipment.

2: It should NOT be profane, derogatory, or insulting in any form or
   language.

3: It should be interpretable as a name. Your name shouldn't be a statement.
   (Bad examples: IAmWarrior, TMG, DDKA)

4: It should not be 'elite'. (Killah, Wazzup, etc).

5: While a name CAN be a combination of words, it has to make sense
as a name in a medieval atmosphere, particularily nature related
names. (Druids, Rangers). A good example is Earthstripe. A bad
   example is Deathknight.

We prefer all names to be unique and fit in with a medieval, magical
world. Names that don't fit the above guidelines will be forced to
(C)ontinue, (R)efresh, (B)ack, (Q)uit: [C] c
change their names. Refusal will result in deactivation of your
account

Names from books, etc, are allowed, as long as they don't conflict with the
above rules.

i suggest we add this new rule:

Any names that are ASSOCIATED with profanity, indecency, or in violation of the above laws are illegal.

This should put a stop to names like Crimsum, Spooge, Vaginalia, Penissim, scrotumo, mothafukur, elephantine...

I know people who come up with dumb names will contine to do so, but now we can point it out in words. This law should make it official.

lol @ chloe :)

well, #2 states: It should NOT be profane, derogatory, or insulting in any form or language.

but Lingolas wants: It should NOT be profane, derogatory, or insulting in any form or language.

totally different you see :)

i shall implement Lingolas' idea right away. (BTW, whats wrong with crimsum, ive been drinking, which means i should be able to see such words alot easier than normal, but i seem to be missing it)

I, Megacumshotman, the mighy elven mage, shall reign death upon thine heads for presuming to enact laws against profane or nonsensical names!

Umm..also...I think Lingolas means no names which are similar to a word for something profane/derogatory/jewish/etc.

ie: under the current law, someone could be named "Phallius". The imms would probably make the person change the name when they noticed it, but it doesn't actually conflict with the actual laws(it sounds kind of medieval, doesn't it?["All hail Lord Phallius, Archmage Extrodinaire!"]). Under lingolas' proposed law change, it would be illegal due to its similarity to a certain word which is NOT acceptable as a name.

Speaking of inappropriate names.. I remember there was a player (i think it was an alt) who had a character named "Tantra" I know that I definitely ridiculed it, but I never noticed the name changed.

Should add a rule in there that no names based on eastern sexual practices are allowed :P
