You may or may not have noticed, the site was experiencing network issues from about 9:30am-ish EST to 11:00am EST. It seems one of the major distribution routers in the data center had a little fit, still waiting on official word, but everything appears to be back in order.

This affected the forums and bport only, not the main game or webpage.

RFO 10/06/04 car5-X outage

Summary:
On Oct 6 2004 at approximately 9:12am CDT Server Matrix customers who are
routed through SM-CAR5-X.DLLSTX2 experienced degraded performance and in some
cases connectivity loss due to a large DOS attack on one of our customers.
This attack was identified and Planet engineers had the attack mitigated by
approximately 10:01am CDT. As of that time all service should be restored
with the exception of the servers involved in the attack.

Future Mitigation:
We are building a large-scale DOS mitigation site with monitoring to increase
the speed and accuracy of our response to these attacks.
