Hi guys!

Soon you will be able to enjoy the new race patch. Before I can put them in however, the races need to be described.

I am looking for gifted english writers who are willing to help describe the races based on the theme, and expand upon the theme where needed.

All the races need to be detailed in Personality, Physical Description, Relations between races, Society (structure and Religion), Language, Typical Male and Female names, and what is so typical of an adventurer of that race.

I am also looking for people willing to help me enter descriptions and physical traits into the mud.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi! I would like to heeeeeelp! Cuz whee!

okay... err GNOME!
SHORT DESC:
A small humanoid race, the Gnome suffer constitution and strength penalties, but enjoy a bonus to their wisdom from spending extended periods of time reading.

LONG DESC:
A short and stocky race, the Gnome are generally magically inclined, preferring to stay indoors and read from their favorite tome to fighting with a sword, giving them superb wisdom However, a Gnome can do many things, as they are very versatile. Preferring illusion magic to direct attacking magic, the Gnome gets a bonus to spells involving enchantment. Their short size, however, limits their physical strength. The Gnome will normally devote to a deity early on, following the ways of a cleric or paladin. Being of their size, the Gnome often fued with Dwarves over small matters, such as which rock is shinier.

I'm not sure exactly how youd want it, but this is just an example, dont can me, i can do good!

another attempt at anything!

SHORT DESC:
Half-Elves enjoy the best qualities from both Human and Elven parents, being close to nature and magic, and having a thirst for knowledge and experience.

LONG DESC:
The Half-Elf is a curious race, a hybrid Human-Elf, possessing abilities of both parents. Their Elven heritage bestows the Half-Elf with charismatic grace and looks, and a natural resistance to sleep-spells. Coming from the Human side, the Half-Elf seeks knowledge and therefore gains an experience rate gain to pay off their hard work. The Elven blood coursing through their veins makes them at one with nature, and the ability to sense magic being cast. The Half-Elf will be brought up learning both the Elvish tongue and Common tongue, from both their parents. Being of the Elven descent, the Half-Elf will normally spend their time studying the way of the ranger, or druid.

i know it has some non-rp features in the description, but it can be changed, im just thinking here...

Thanks for participating Chilli!

I'm inviting everybody to follow Chilli's example and describe a race as best you can.

What I would like to see in a race description:
- Personality
- Physical Description
- Relations between races (any major likes/dislikes)
- Society (structure and Religion)
- Language
- Typical Male and Female names
- What is typical of an adventurer of that race.
- No meta-gaming/ooc descriptions.

When people read a race description I want them to get a dose of flavor from the game, get a feel for what that race is like and how the race fits within the world. Try to make it interesting (you are not clinically describing a cow, you are describing a society)

All descriptions should at least concur or reinforce the races powers. To take Chilli's half-elf description as an example, describing the Half-Elf as curious and fast learning brings over the same message without touching the meta-gaming aspect. (The mud will provide means of seeing metagame race stats at character creation).

I will need the description for two reasons:
1) short introduction at character creation, which combines all the above topics into one.
2) a longer story which will be available in game.

For now the short introduction is most important.

winged elf:

SHORT DESC:
These are relatively tall Elves, ranging from four to five feet, and possessing the ability of flight with their scaley wings.

LONG DESC:
Many, many years ago, there was a group of small dragons, with the ability to take the shape of humans, elves, and other humanoid races. An elf fell in love with one of these dragons, and before long they had started a family. The present-day descendants of this family are the Winged Elves, graced with the abilities of both sides of its heritage. The Winged Elf posesses a pair of slightly scaley wings bulging from their shoulderblades, granting them the capacity of natural flight. With their wings, the Elves bear extraordinary dexterity, and from their Elven blood have rather charismatic features, a resistance to sleep spells and an innate talent to sense magic. The wings on their back, however, injure the spine slightly, giving a lowered constitution. The wings also are quite flamable, giving a susceptability to fire damage, but a resistance to air damage.
Coming from their elven heritage, they are at one with nature, preferring a life in the forest, so many Winged Elves choose to live their lives as rangers or druids.

WOW, LONG! :O

nixie:

SHORT DESC:
Pixies of the ocean, these fey dwell beneath the water, breathing it and living it.

LONG DESC:
These unusual Feykin are indeed mischevious, oftentimes flying around people and using their innate abilities to drop massive springs of water over their victim's head. Like any Pixie-cousin, the Nixie is short, oftentimes no more than one or two feet in height, and because of it, suffer a severe lack of phyiscal strength and endurance. Their small, cherubic faces bestow their whole being with a God-like charisma, making some other races, despite their difference, swoon in extacy at the sight of these creatures. The Nixie has a special ability to morph his/her body into the form of a small human child, averaging four to four and a half feet. Like most Feykin, Nixies have an innate magical inheritance, letting them cast more complex spells earlier than other races. Being a carefree spirit, the Nixies often forget the importance of studying their magical tomes, and loose wisdom because of it.

(Imperial?) Halflings, yo!

SHORT DESC:
This race of short, hairy people are rather dextrous, but due to their short stature, have a weakened frame, and arent very strong.

LONG DESC:
Halflings, hated particularily by Orcs and other Goblinkin, have a long history of famous rogues. Their tiny, stubby fingers can work a lockpick rather well, and short size allows them to get in and out of a place quickly, without being noticed, more than likely holding everything of value from that building. Due to their kind's emphasis on roguery and thievery, the Halfling have forgotten the magical way, and are fairly poor when it comes to the arcane arts. The Halfling will most likely choose a profession suited to his race, such as a ranger, or rogue.

I've had some requests for old race descriptions like Zion so their descs will be as authentic as possible. :P

Re-use the content, ignore the wording. :P

Code:
----
(->Thrall Ancestry)

The Gith are a race descended from humans.  Once long ago, they were a
peaceful civilization of humans that were captured by mind flayers and
tormented for centuries.  Eventually, a savior named Gith led them to
freedom, yet their bodies had been flayed by the mental powers of the
illithids.  The Gith found themselves, stronger, quicker, luckier and
smarter than average humans, yet they had lost much of their faith,
wisdom, stamina and charisma.

They had yellowed skin and were very long of limb.  Sunken eyes peered
from yellowed sockets, now strangely capable of naturally detecting
invisible things.  The Gith race has split into three distinct groups
recently.  The good, the Githzerai, the selfish neutral, the Pirates
of Gith, and the evil, the Githyanki.

--
(->Half-Fiend Ancestry)

Half-Fiends are the result of a fiend forcing itself on a human or
demi-human partner. Half-Fiends have a demonic appearance

Half-Fiends tend to be either loners or leaders amongst the demi-human
ranks, inspiring fear with their demonic appearance. Most Half-Fiends
resent their heritage.
Half-Fields are immune to curse, and see the white aura of good
creatures automatically. Their bat-like wings, although not fully
functional, allow them to glide and float.

--
(->Celestial Ancestry)

all Half-Celestials are truly unique, having an angelic appearance.

It is extremely rare to find a Half-Celestial child who was
mistreated when growing up. Most Half-Celestials are beings of love
and devotion, protecting the innocent and doing good wherever they go.
Half-Celestials are immune to vampirism, and can detect evil
creatures automatically via a red aura. Their wings, although not fully
functional, allow them to glide and float.

--
(->Dark Elves)

Drow are the darker, more evil cousins of Elves.  They were once part of
the happy community of Elves which roam the forests today, but have long
since moved under the ground, building vast subterranean cities and
complex networks of caves.

Drow have black skin and white hair, and are moderately weaker and have
a more slight constitution than average humans.  Still, like all Elves,
they have a slightly higher dexterity than men.

Members of this race specialize in spell casting, and have thus developed
a very high intelligence.  Being creatures of darkness the Drow tend to
fight more proficiently in the darkness, and have innate infravision with
which to discern objects and living things in the absence of light.

--
(--> not moved)

(Gelfling)
Gelflings are a inherently gentle race that tend to live amongst
Halflings or Elves, who provide them protection in exchange for
their services as healer or craftsperson.

Gelfling adults look like elfish children with ears that in form
faintly resemble those of a mouse. A small percentage Gelfling
females grow wings at an adult age.

--
(--> Tribal Elves)

Wild elves, also known as grugach, are barbaric and tribal.
Their skin tends to be dark brown, and their hair ranges
from black to light brown, lightening to silvery white with
age. They dress in simple clothing of animal skins and basic
plant weaves. Though the others consider them savages, they
contend that they are the true elves, for the rest have lost
their primal elven essence in needing to build.
The average Wild Elf stands taller than most Humans, being
well over six feet. Most have fair skin and long, straight
hair.

--
(-->Sea Elves)

Also called Aquatic Elves, they are akin to mermen as land elves are
akin to men.  Found almost exclusively among heavy weed beds in quiet,
sheltered, salty waters, they are great friends of the dolphins.  The
race historically prefers to fashion caverns in lagoon bottoms and
reefs in which to live and work, but the reality of the today's Realms
has forced them into the general populace.

The race is humanoid in appearance, with gill slits on the throat and
greenish-silver skin and green or blue-green hair.  Sea elves have an
inate ability to notice magical auras as well as breath under water.
~

--

(-->Zions)

Zions are much like humans. They are bipedal creatures with two
arms and a roundish head. Their height, weight, eye and hair
color vary greatly. Zions are known for their telepathic abilities
and remarkable willpower. They tend to be a wiser than humans but
have a bit less stamina.
Respected by most races, Zions are frowned upon by lower species who
fear their mental powers. You would find a Zion mostly as a teacher
or instructor, aided by telepathy and wisdom.

i think that in dl theyre different... if youve ever been to the city of the forsaken in the game, there are the "dark elf"s with those keywords, and then in the same area, very different "drow" mobs... which i havent figured out how to get through, cuz theres one door blocking the way that i cant get past (curse you, zeraphin!)... but typing "where drow" clearly states that there are many more mobs in that area... my complaint of there not being any mobs in that area seems to be wrong

 Post subject: Lizardmen
PostPosted: Sun Mar 12, 2006 1:08 pm
Erm... this may be kinda late, but i just figured that i'd try my hand at writing a racial desc. This one is for the Lizardmen.

Short desc:

A strange mix, humanoid and yet reptilian race, the Lizardmen are a tribal race typically consisting of warriors as they favour brute force over the mystical powers of the mind and magic.

Long desc:

With a head and tail like that of a lizard but arms and legs like that of a human, a Lizardman is indeed a strange sight. Their reptilian heads and their flickering tongue combined with their nomadic and tribal nature is enough to repulse quite a few of the other races in the realm. They are typically hot-tempered, stubborn and would rather draw swords than settle scores diplomatically, as their kind have long had an emphasis on brute strength and long-standing stamina. Preferring war and bloodshed to times of peace where they can flex their muscles and demonstrate their ability and lay claim the title as to who is the strongest, this has long marked their race as being "not-too-bright" in many races eyes.

Lizardmen take to water like fish but due to their reptilian nature, they have a tendency to bask in the sun to get back the warmth that they had lost. Their voice is generally hoarse and gruff, not to mention that their spittle has properties of acid and they are less vulnerable attacks of such nature.
